Buescher Baritone Saxophones
Buescher is a brand name of saxophones and other wind instruments manufactured by the Buescher Band Instrument Company, an American company based in Indiana. The company was founded in the late 19th century by Ferdinand August Gus Buescher. Through the years, the company was joined, merged, and sold to other companies and in the 1960`s, the Buescher Band Instrument Company was sold to H. and A. Selmer and the latter restricted the use of the Buescher brand name.
Buescher Baritone Saxophones manufactured before the 1960`s are considered as some of the best saxophones of the time. When the Buescher Band Instrument Company was sold to H. and A. Selmer, the quality of Buescher horns deteriorated as H. and A. Selmer focused on the student horn market. Buescher brass instruments` quality before the H. and A. Selmer buyout was high and they competed quite successfully with some of the best brass instruments of the time such as Conn and Martin.
One of the earliest models of Buescher Baritone Saxophones is the True Tone model which was manufactured by the Buescher Band Instrument Company between 1905 and 1932. The True Tone model came in several finishes which were bare brass, silver plated, silver plated body with gold plated keys, and gold plated.
Buescher Baritone Saxophones are sought after by saxophone collectors. These vintage brass instruments not only sound good but they look good too. Buescher is believed to be the first company to manufacture saxophones in America so having a Buescher saxophone means not only having a fine instrument, but having a piece of history as well.
